When opportunities arise, do you take them? My motto is that I'll try everything once, even if it doesn't make sense. An artist friend had a blog posting for a "DIY Education," where she talked about attempting to get a MFA without the debt and mumbo gumbo of the university institution. So we decided to get coffee and talk about our ideas. The next week, DIY Grad School had formed, with 7 members and a once-a-week group meeting to talk about our individual projects. We then began to attempt to articulate our ideas thoughts feelings around trying to simulate a MFA program without being too boxed in with structure, but still maintaining a theory-based curriculum and formulating a community of practice. We just finished our first 7-week session, already planning the 2nd session!
This is Alex's design for DIY Grad School, based upon his studies of optical illusion art.
